Guardians of equality

During the III Training in Regeneration we explored Global Goal 5. Gender equality and target 5.4 "value unpaid care and promote shared domestic responsibilities" with students between the ages of 8 and 10. We analyzed various topics such as inequality in the fields of education, science, art, laws related to land tenure, and domestic work. The interaction with students , through experiments, games, art and dialogue, filled us with joy as they showed us their efforts in applying regenerative actions to their educational institutions, communities, and homes.

We had the opportunity to meet Suri, our meerkat friend, who lives in the Kalahari desert. She taught us how meerkats cooperate to survive. She showed us how important it is for her to study the rhythms of the desert, and we understood that knowledge is essential to take care of ourselves and other beings. Her wisdom accompanied us throughout the journey: inviting us to explore our relationship with the ecosystem; the importance of having different voices or sounds for greater communication; we discovered the architectural art of her household; the possibility of living in community with other species; the need for a home and the care it requires, where it is essential to collaborate with each other.

She moved us by the receptivity of the students to connect with a complex reality that affects the daily lives of many people. They shared their experiences on how they have been affected in their daily life or how their family members have been affected, and they proposed ways to strengthen these bonds of care. In the diversity of opinions, we shared a lot of sincerity and reflection.

We are grateful for the support of the mothers in this learning space, because they made this Training a very enriching experience. The motivation and participation of everyone made the classes an active space full of creativity, with which the children enjoyed and expressed themselves freely. In addition, we highlight the interest of the children, who did not hesitate to teach us how other realities also influence this fight for gender equality, for example, caring for the environment, animals, and armed conflict.
